College Football Week 9 Picks

Column Record: 22-18-2 (2-3 last week)

Total Record: 27-22-2

I’m going to post 2 records each week. One that tracks the official column picks and one that tracks my overall record since I’ll add plays throughout the weekend (some sober others not so much). If I add plays I will tweet them out as I place them. This way it gives you an accurate and transparent look at how the picks are faring.

Week 8 Recap:

Florida -5 at South Carolina: Win

Ohio State -28 at Northwestern: Win

Washington State Team Total Over 41.5: Loss (Talk about a bad beat. WSU scored 41 and easily should’ve been in the 50s)

Charlotte +9 at Western Kentucky: Loss

Ole Miss/Texas A&M Over 55: Loss

Week 9 Picks:

Purdue -9.5 at Illinois (Noon): Congrats, Illini. You shock the college football world and now you’re on the road against a Purdue team that is getting healthier. Jack Plummer has been pretty good in the absence of Elijah Sindelar and I think he has a huge game against a vulnerable Illinois defense. I think the Illini are in a huge letdown spot after their season was made last week at home against Wisconsin.

Oklahoma State +10.5 at Iowa State (3:30pm): Big plays absolutely killed Oklahoma State last week versus Baylor. After leading at halftime, the OK State defense gave up a 64 yard TD, a 73 yard TD, and the OK State QB Spencer Sanders gave up a fumble return for a TD. The 45-27 score against Baylor didn’t reflect how close that game should’ve been. If Oklahoma State limits the big plays this week (as they have all year) I think this is an incredible close, tight game and I think OK State has a chance to pull the upset in Ames.

Texas at TCU Over 57 (3:30pm): Neither team has been all that interested in playing defense this year. Texas is coming off a terrible defensive performance allowing Kansas to score 48 points and rack up almost 570 yards of offense. TCU’s defense has not been a normal Gary Patterson-led squad as they’ve been prone to giving up points as they have against SMU (41) and Iowa State (49). TCU opened as a favorite and Texas is now -1. I think this is a high scoring game and TCU gets a big home win against the Longhorns.

Eastern Michigan +3 at Toledo (3:30pm): What in the world has happened to the Rockets? After starting 4-1, Toledo has dropped 2 in a row, including a loss to Bowling Green and a blow out to Ball State. QB Mitch Guadagni is hurt and backup Carter Bradley is in line for his second straight start. EMU is coming off a nice win at home against Western Michigan after hitting their own rough patch. I think EMU goes into the Glass Bowl and gets another win against a banged up Toledo team.

Alabama -32 v Arkansas (7pm): Did you see how pissed off Nick Saban was this week? That’s all I needed. No Tua? No problem. Saban has their attention and this game is going to be ugly for Arkansas.

Fresno State -14.5 v Colorado State (7:30pm): CSU comes into Fresno banged up as both their starting QB and RB are out. Their defense has struggled all season giving up 35 ppg. Now they travel to Fresno who, admittedly, has been a little up and down this year. However, given their injuries I think they struggle to score points and Fresno wins big.
