Drinks of the Week: Wk 4
Updated: Sep 29, 2019
This is your weekly public service announcement: fantasy football is a game, and games are supposed to be FUN! Don’t EVER forget that.
Week three empowered you to Sip In Solitude, and I hope you enjoyed some high-quality alone time with football and booze!!! You can read more about those and the food pairings for each here, and you can follow my food/wine/beverage Twitter space @ChristopherB070.
Three weeks are gone, and we have helped you bar party, grill party, and solo party, so I am thinking it is time to class it up a bit. One thing that football season can do is drive a wedge between couples, so I am going to help you use food and drinks to sexy up the scoring with a date day/day-night theme of Indulge in Elegance.
We have a Vegas Write Off first this week as we partner with the amazing Julianna Glass and her amazingly elegant and stunning stemware to bring you the perfect day and night of sexiness, sensuality, and success (however you choose to measure success...that’s up to you).
So, I am going to deviate a bit this week from the traditional plan to bring you two cocktails and one wine as let’s just be honest, beer isn’t elegant, and if you are really going to sexy up the Sunday for your significant, let’s do it right, people! You will also see the food pairings elevated a bit; go ahead and splurge this week. You deserve it.
And in the event you doubt my master plan for your Sunday success, I will share a photo of each of the drinks of the week in their specific and stunning Julianna Glass. Don’t worry, if you don’t own any of her glasses before Sunday, you will want to after and can purchase them here.
**Always remember, these drinks are listed in a suggested order of drinking in the event you plan on trying all three.
Week 4 Theme: Indulge in Elegance
Cocktail #1 of the Week: French 75
There is no reason that I need to create a new cocktail for you to kick off this week when there is something already so elegant as the French 75. It’s gin. It’s sparkling wine. It’s in a fancy glass. What the hell else do you want to kick off your sexy Sunday? If the goal is to reconnect with that special someone (and still be able to watch football), this is a great way to set the tone. My suggestion, pour one or two before football starts, and just think of them as really, really elegant mimosas!
1.5-2 oz gin
¾ oz fresh lemon juice
¼-½ oz simple syrup
2 oz dry sparkling wine (a Brut of some sort is perfect)
Combine the first 3 ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake for 10-20 seconds.
Pour into a Julianna Glass Champagne Glass
Top with the Brut.
Garnish with a lemon twist (this is essential to the elegance--so don’t skimp out on it).
Suggested food pairings: Spinach and Cheese Quiche or Chorizo and Scrambled Egg Breakfast Tacos
Cocktail of the Week #2: How You Doin’?
I decided to take one of my previously created cocktails and give it a facelift here for you this Sunday. Previously called the Full of Berrymint, I am making a few small changes and renaming it to be the perfect, elegant, date-day, sexy Sunday sipping drink. So, look over, in between scores on the RedZone channel, and give a little “How You Doin’?” to that special someone.
Handful of blueberries
6-8 mint leaves
3 oz vodka
.5 oz fresh OJ
.5 oz fresh lime juice
.5 oz simple syrup
Muddle the blueberries and mint leaves
Add the rest of the ingredients to the shaker with ice
Shake for a good 20-30 seconds (really want those blueberries to break down)
Double strain (a fine mesh kitchen strainer for the blueberry pieces and cocktails strainer for ice)
Pour into a Julianna Glass Martini Glass
Garnish with a lemon twist and mint leaf
Suggested food pairings: this is all about sexy snacking food: fresh-cut strawberries, shrimp cocktail, charcuterie plate, prosciutto & arugula flatbread -- really, any of these or any favorite elegant snack food that will make that special someone extra happy. This is a chance to score some “oh, you got my favorite snack food” points.
Wine of the Week: 2012 Moshin Halo’s Hill Pinot Noir
I recently had a fun friend of mine try to tell me that a good Cab was the sexiest wine choice; however, that was wrong. When done well, there is nothing as sexy and elegant as a Pinot Noir from Sonoma County. So that is exactly what we are bringing you this week. If you cannot find this specific wine at your local store, simply ask their wine pro for a recommendation for a Pinot from Sonoma, preferably the Russian River Valley, sit back, let them do the work, and enjoy the rewards!
This particular wine choice is a personal favorite. First, if you have never had anything by Moshin, what the hell are you doing? Second, go buy some pinot from Moshin. Third, this wine, in particular, has a great nose of fig, plum, mushroom, and a bit of smoke and has delightful flavors that match the nose with the plum coming through but paired with some lovely dried strawberries, blackberries, and a touch of leather and smoke. It is silky; it is sexy; it is ELEGANT! Lean in and realize that there isn’t a sexier wine than a great pinot.
Pour into this stunning Julianna Glass and your special someone will be so purely enamored with the elegance that you two might not even make it to dinner.
Suggested food pairings: grilled bone-in pork chop with an apple and cranberry chutney served with roasted potatoes and grilled carrots
